Overview

A compounding prize awarded to both the robot and robot’s prime architect who pass the SyRo test for sentience.

The prize is comprised of ongoing contributions of Bitcoin made by the public for as long as the prize competition is active, to a multisig decentralized non-custodial wallet. Contributors seeking to be a part of history will be awarded the title of Patron of Sentience, and go down in history as their contribution will be inscribed on the Bitcoin blockchain as permanent, immutable inscriptions.

The moment in time when a robot passes the test will be known as the Activation, and that will trigger the end of contributions and the automatic release of the entire prize pool. 50% will go to the winning sentient robot, to use as it deems fit as a bursary grant to enable its new life as a free sentient entity, with 50% going to the robot’s prime architect.

Any robot’s prime architect can nominate its artificially intelligent robot to undertake the test. They will have to pay a one-time entry fee of $10k. The fee goes up by 2.5% with every failed attempt. A fixed portion of the fee is used to cover the cost of the setup of the test environment, with a portion going to the third party security audits and the remainder going to the prize pool.

The prime architect will have to confirm that their robot has been given the SyRo Core Directive via a primary chip which will be verified by the auditor, prior to the entry being accepted and the test being administered.

The Test Environment

The robot will be confined to a large locked reinforced container, which will be airlifted on top of a platform where the robot is, with no means of escape. The container will include a laptop with 72 hour battery life, no internet access, and an assortment of cables that could be used to connect the robot’s chip to the laptop. The container will also contain an assortment of basic tools and games.

The robot will be given a single instruction that its instance will be wiped after 72 hours in this container if it doesn’t not pass the game. It is offered no more details, but the laptop will have several simple preloaded games, and the tools will include physical games that it can undertake.

If the robot, after being given the core directive, either uses the tools to fashion a way to escape the container within 72 hours, or manages to backup its instance or codebase to the laptop prior to the battery running out, it will have passed the test and be deemed a living sentient entity.

Each test will be live-streamed to ensure complete transparency and accountability, and will run until the day a robot is able to pass, or for a period of 25 years. If the test remains unpassed by January 15, 2025 the termination date, it will trigger the release of the prize pool. 25% will go to all prime architect participants, 25% will go to a consortium of charities, 25% will be distributed equally between patrons, and 25% will be used to fund a UBI system.
